Frequently asked questions

How do I add a tea?

On the My Teas tab, tap the gold + button and choose either Manual (type the metadata yourself) or Scan Label (take a photo of the package and let the AI extract the fields for you to review).

What does the AI label scan do?

The image is sent to our server, forwarded once to OpenAI for content moderation and metadata extraction, and the result is returned to your device. The image itself is never stored on our servers – it lives only in memory for the duration of the request. The AI's guess is always shown for you to review and edit before anything is saved to your collection. See the Privacy Policy for details.

I scanned a label but a few fields are wrong.

The review screen exposes every extracted field as an editable input. Correct anything that's off, then tap Save Tea. Nothing the AI returns is final until you confirm it.

How do I record a brew?

Open the tea, tap Start Brew Session, log your leaf weight, water, temperature, and infusion times, and save. Brewed grams are deducted from your inventory automatically and the brew is added to that tea's history.

Why is a tea suddenly on my Shopping List?

When a tea drops at or below its low-stock threshold (default 10g, configurable in Settings), and you've toggled Mark for rebuy on it, Tea Cellar adds it to the Shopping List. Tap Bought on a row to remove it; the next time it goes low again it will reappear.

I'm running out of AI scans this month.

Each account gets a monthly quota of AI label scans, shown on the Scan Tea Label screen and in Settings. The quota resets on the 1st of each calendar month. Manual entry is unlimited and uses none of the quota.

I didn't get the verification email.

Check spam first. Verification links are valid for 24 hours; if yours expired, sign in and tap Resend verification email on the banner. If it still doesn't arrive after 10 minutes, email us with the address you used to sign up and we'll verify it manually.

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email. You'll receive a one-time link valid for 1 hour. If you no longer have access to that email address, contact support.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. You'll be asked to confirm with your password, and the deletion is immediate and irreversible – every tea, brew session, photo reference, shopping list row, and notification preference is erased from our database. If you can't sign in for any reason, email us from the address on file and we'll process the deletion manually.

How do I export my data?

Email us with the subject "Data export" from the address on your account; we'll return a JSON archive of every record we hold about you within 30 days, in line with Article 15 GDPR.

Notifications aren't arriving.

Confirm that notifications are enabled for Tea Cellar in your device's system settings, then in the app under Settings → Notifications verify that low-stock alerts are on. Push delivery depends on Apple's APNs and Google's FCM and can be delayed by up to a few minutes when your device is in Low Power / Doze mode.

Known limitations

Status & outages

Tea Cellar is a single-developer side project, not a 24/7 operations team. If the app stops working for everyone at once, you'll typically see a fix within hours; the fastest way to flag it is the support email above. There is no separate status page.
